Pete Winn

My background in hockey spans the last 31 years as both a player and a coach. I have been coaching since 1994 when I was appointed as the player coach of the Sunderland Chiefs then moved to Whitley Bay Warriors in 1996.
 
I spent six years with the Warriors and was able to achieve the clubs first ever grand slam season in 2001 winning the ENL North, ENL National play-offs, ENL Cup and the Anglo Scottish cup. We won a total of six championships in the six years I was there as well as being runners up and cup finalists.
 
 I then moved into the role of coaching coordinator with Whitley Bay junior development taking the U16’s and U19’s to the EIHA national championships. The U19’s also won the UK hockey U19 cup in 2004 and 2005.
 
I was appointed head coach of the Northern conference U17 team and went on to coach the U15’s and the Midlands U17’s being awarded coach of the year in all three teams.
 
In 2006 I moved to Newcastle to become the Vipers Academy head coach for two seasons. During that time I was able to gain success with the ENL Vipers gaining their first Double championships by winning the ENL North and also ENL National Champions.
 In 2008 I moved back to be head coach with the Whitley Bay juniors which is my current role.
 
I am a level 3 coach and also a senior instructor for the EIHA coaching programme. This season I have been appointed coach with the England U15 team.
 
My aim is to introduce a higher standard of hockey training throughout the NUIHC as well as develop an attractive style of hockey played by the A team. I am very honoured to have been approached by the NUHIC and offered the position of head coach.
 
I am looking forward to the new challenge of making the play offs and sowing the seeds of success with the players.
